Environmental Policy

The Wern is a tourist accommodation provider with two bed and breakfast rooms and accommodation in the form of grazing and stabling for horses. We specialise in providing a service to riders and their horses for both the Brecon Beacons and Radnor Loop, the 3 Rivers Ride and for visitors who wish to enjoy a series of petal rides over several days, using bridleways and country lanes. We are located within the Brecon Beacons National Park in the bowl of Llangorse Lake with a view of the Black Mountains.

We aim to promote green tourism without cars, by enabling horse owners to take riding holidays with their own horses. By surveying and mapping suitable routes, we are both keeping access to bridleways open and minimising any impact on unsuitable ground. Other environmental impacts are the disposal of waste and the use of energy and water.

The owners of The Wern recognise their obligation to comply with all relevant environmental legislation and have regard for the guidance notes to this legislation.

In order to reduce any impact on the environment we aim to follow the principles below:

Minimise, recover and recycle waste wherever possible.

Ensure the prevention of pollution.

Promote the equestrian alternative to cars to explore the area.

Increase the use of home produced and locally produced food products to reduce food miles.

Continually monitor energy consumption and improve energy efficiency by the prudent use of energy and the implementation of energy saving devices such as energy saving light bulbs where possible.

Be aware of and comply with all relevant environmental legislation.

Aim for continual reduction in the environmental impact of the business.
